Online Gambling Outlook Secures MGM Resorts A $1 Billion Investment
Despite reporting a 91 percent drop in earnings duirng the next quarter due largely to the coronavirus-induced closed setbacks nationally, MGM Resorts obtained a 10-figure investment by a prominent holding firm.
InterActive Corp announced Monday it purchased a 12 percent stake, worth roughly $1 billion, at the Las Vegas-based gaming giant.
Despite a lack of earnings during its brick-and-mortar centers, billionaire Barry Diller’s IAC, bought the stake in MGM due to its prognosis on the online gambling store.
“MGM presented a ‘once in a decade’ opportunity for IAC to own a meaningful piece of a preeminent brand in a large category with great potential to move online,” said Diller in a letter to investors.
According to a Fox Business report, Diller also said he was trying to go into to online gambling space “for a while” and the sector was worth $450 billion on a worldwide scale. IAC is a New York-based holding company that owns brands in over 100 nations.
With bigger gambling hubs damaging as tourism declines and earnings drops from constraints coming from new security protocols, the online distance, where lawful, has flourished.
